State Representative Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) filed a House Resolution in the Illinois General Assembly to recognize October of this year as Hindu Heritage Month. Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, with more than 250,000 followers in Illinois alone. Representative Lewis wanted to not only recognize this group but the significant contributions Hindu-Americans have made across essential fields of science, education, law, medicine, sports, culture and more.
“We have a vibrant Hindu community in Illinois that my family is proud to be a part of, and I want this month to be an extension of that pride: Hindu-Americans are part of the diverse roadmap our state is made up of, and this month is about celebrating that,” said Rep. Lewis.
Representative Lewis has filed House Resolutions annually to ensure October is a celebration of Hindu heritage, culture, traditions, and values. October in particular is special to Hinduism as one of the major religious festivals, Diwali, is celebrated at the end of the month.
The Representative encourages this recognition, where Illinois will join many states across the nation in recognizing this October as Hindu Heritage Month.
